:D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Sort of belated wedding gift. One of Marty's co-workers framed our wedding invitation for us. She was invited to the wedding but she couldn't make it. She's an engineer and an artist - www.melissajonesart.com. Quite the talented chick. You can't tell in the picture at all, but the matting is textured with flowers and it matches the invitation really well. She also made a pocket in the back to hold the extra things like the map and RSVP. I'm so pleased.
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D
Marty's best man, Mike "the RT," will be visiting us next weekend to help us pick paint colors and whatever. He's an architect/artist so I trust his judgment. Hehe.
We are seriously tired and not done. Still have a bunch of crap at the apartment. Still have to clean the apartment. Still need to unpack at the house. Have lots of things to do to the house.
It's an older house and there were some old people living there so we need to liven it up a bit. They loved beige. We're going to de-beige the house.
Got a brand-new fancy fridge. It's digital. I didn't know fridges could be digital. We also got a fancy front load washer and a fancy front load dryer, they match. Apparently front load is good - I have no idea, I'm just saying what people have told me. o_O
There are a lot of things to think about when you have a house which I never thought to think of until I got this house. Like watering the lawn. My parent's house has a sprinkler system, this house does not, so we have to stategize how to water the lawn. Funny stuff.
I'm excited. And tired. Luckily we got all of the major furniture and things over to the house.
Marty and I haven't actually opened our wedding presents yet. We wanted to wait until we got the house. We did open some, like Taiko Drummaster, bwahahahaha! But yeah, we haven't opened the majority of our presents so it's fun to see all the pretty things we got. If you haven't gotten a thank you note from me yet and you're expecting one, then you need to contact me.
Someone bought us a giant grill. We still need to assemble it - actually we still need to get it to the house because right now our friends are storing it in their garage since we didn't have the house at that point.
I HAVE A SEWING ROOM! David Tennant lives there. I mean, the cardboard cut-out I have of David Tennant lives there.
Edit: Visit us, you whores.
Then I need to pack two different bags, one for London and one for Orlando. I don't want to mix the two together since I'm trying to pack as light as possible for London. Otherwise how I am to make sure that there's enough room for all the stuff I buy in London. Marty and I figure it's not a big deal if we pack light because then we can just buy whatever we don't have. Oh noes, I ran out of clothes, I'll just buy new clothes in London. Can't go wrong with that. :P
People keep asking me if I'm stressed over this weekend and I'm not really. I'm more stressed over all the work I have to finish at my job before I leave for two and a half weeks. O_O
( This past Sunday Marty and I spent a little time together. )
( To Do Wedding )
I gotta finish planning the honeymoon stuff too! Exchange money for Pounds, map out the sites, print our plane information, figure out transportation. Tube passes!
I had a small bridal shower this past weekend with the girls of New Orleans. It was cute and sweet. I still have wedding cake cupcakes in the fridge. ::drools::
Marty and I picked up a Nikon D60. My brother says we should have gotten aa D80 or D90, but I think this camera suits our needs just fine. It's a fun little camera. I'm glad we got it before our trip.
( Picture from Ryan's Birthday Party )
We might be getting a house, again! An offer we made got accepted. We'll see how the inspection goes. No idea. O_O
Man, I get this Friday off because of Good Friday. Awesome.
Friday night dropped Oki off to spend the weekend with her boyfriend, Ernie. She did alright, but she's developed separation anxiety. It's not because of this past weekend although we didn't realize what it was until this past weekend. It's been an ongoing combination of leaniency and our stupid, loud, and obnoxious upstairs neighbors in the past couple of months that's made her really anxious. Hopefully we can get this fixed before we leave for London. o_O
Woke up at 4:30 in the morning to catch a 6:00 am flight to Miami. Spent the day running errands and going to Ikea, hehe. Checked into the hotel, met up with Andrew and Brian, and got ready for Austin and Megan's wedding. The wedding was delayed but overall it was nice and it was good to see friends. :) Megan was completely gorgeous. I'm very happy for Austin and Megan. Marty and I had to duck out of the party earlyish since we had to wake up early the next morning to go Orlando. o_O Luckily, Dan was able to give a later ride to Andrew and Brian.
Marty and I woke up and drove to Orlando so I could make a hair appointment with Ashley for her wedding. OMG, so many weddings. It was a fun time at the salon with the girls. :D I got curls, no updo - that's all I wanted. Running around the mall trying to find ivory thigh-highs was fun. Hehe. Stopped at Bahama Breeze for quick eats, then off to the gardens to prepare Ashley for the wedding. It was such a good time - I really liked the intimacy of Ashley and Rob's wedding. Just hanging out with friends in fancy clothes. :D Even after the reception we all just hung out. I really miss my friends.
Monday morning we had to wake up early to take Laura to the airport. Then Marty and I went to get our marriage license. YAY. We had some time to talk to Marty's mom about our own wedding stuff. Egads. I can't believe we're next. I know weddings are a big shindig, but all I really want is to just hang out with my friends.
The rest of Monday was running around Dawn, Kyle, Ashley, Rob, and British Andrew. :D Our flight back to New Orleans was around 5ish. So yeah, every day was a travel day.
There's other stuff going on. Some good, some not so good. I can't wait for the weekend. LOL
Here's my stack of RSVPs! Makes me so happy.
I only need 40 more responses.
There really isn't much left to do now. I'll have more stuff to do once we get the rest of the RSVPs. Favors, escort cards, program, blah blah blah.
Stahly called me about her wedding so I also started researching Japanese weddings, bwahahahaha! I've been bombarding her with emails full of links, pictures, and ideas.
Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!
I'm so happy about this bird cage. I wanted a bird cage as a card holder for the wedding. You know, for those people who didn't bring presents, but have a card can stick it in the bird cage. :D :D :D
It took me forever to find exactly what I wanted. I wanted a black metal cage and here it is!
All the other stupid bird cages meant for wedding card holders were white and ass-expensive and not cute. :P
This one is just right. :D
I have been slow with the Save the Dates. I'm putting them in large lucky red envelopes and I had to wait for those to arrive. Then I plan to put them in mailing envelopes, then stamp and label them and then mail them out. o_O I probably won't mail them until this weekend.
Marty and I start our pre-marriage counseling tonight. It's required by the Catholic church. Makes sense to me and I'm looking forward to it. We have a good relationship so I'm wondering if it'll be a reaffirmation of how awesome we are together or maybe I'll learn something new and there'll be surprises. Poop if I know, I'm not worried.
We decided on London for our honeymoon! YES! We'll go to Ireland later, we'll just add it to the list of countries we want to visit.
There are other little things I'll be picking up for the wedding so it's coming together.
This is not the dress I picked out. This is just one of the fifty dresses I tried on this past Saturday. My friends Christy, Aleesha, and Nicole came along for support.
I had a specific style in my mind and most of the dresses that I tried on were that style. This was not at all the style I wanted but it was thrown in there by Aleesha for fun. The girls really liked this one but I didn't want a poofy dress not to mention the striping on top bothered me.
Course, the dress I ended up picking wasn't much like the specific style I had in mind except the silhouettes are similar. o_O
Oh wells, I ordered my dress and now I have shoes. Need to get the rest done. o_O AAAHHHH! I'm so glad I have Marty's mom.
Wedding planning has been going on. The guest list is somewhat finalized. The place, date, bridal party, and color scheme have been picked out. Not much else has been finalized although it's all being researched. o_O We need to start putting down deposits soon.
Marty's mom has essentially been my wedding planner since she's in Orlando and I am not. I've also put Ashley up to the task of aiding her.
Camay is designing all my paper. The Save the Date looks phenomenal!!!!!!! I can't wait to see what the invitations look like later on. :D
This Saturday I'm going to try on some dresses and make final decisions on that and then Sunday Marty and I are going to go start up on the gift registries. o_O
Too much to think about.
Friday was the day before we went back to Lousiana and it was actually somewhat productive. In the morning, Marty, Jeri, Kathy, and I went to three estate sales. Jeri and I looked over one of the estate sales the night before and they had a dress form! Unfortunately by the time I got there it was gone. :( Oh well, it was an old one so the measurements probably wouldn't have fit me anwyays.
After that we hung out at Kathy's where we discussed the wedding. There's so much to think about when it comes to the wedding. o_O we went to this sushi place for lunch called Kata. Kathy had used them to cater her reception and we're thinking of doing the same. Only for sushi though. I also want Chinese food, so we're going to have to find another place to cater the Chinese food.
Marty and I set the date. April 25, 2009. These are the notes that the fortune teller wrote our concerning our lucky day as well as a few comments on our relationship. I'm going to have to ask mommy for the whole translation. All she told me was that we need to pick between April 10 or April 25 and April 10 is the Friday before Easter weekend. The fortune teller also remarked that Marty and I get along very well but that I tease/harass him all the time.
Having my aunt in Hong Kong consult a fortune teller took longer than I would have liked, but overall I am very pleased with following this tradition.
I plan to frame this.
Last week was rather crazy. Many, many interviews and there was something I couldn't stop worrying about. :P
Wednesday was a day of packages. I received a couple bags of brownies and a cow from Ming! It was sort of a surprise in that I didn't know what I was receiving, but Ming had told me earlier that he sent me something.
Mommy also sent me a package. What you see is a piece of red silk meant as a Chinese guestbook of sorts for the wedding. Mommy and I talked about it and we didn't like the design so Mommy's going to get me a different one. The red silk is from Hong Kong. My cousin is touring the states and she dropped the red silk off along with her wedding gift to me. The wedding gift is a pair of diamond earrings. They're quite pretty. Other things in the parcel included a pair of bling-ey sandals and a bathrobe. Apparently Mommy doesn't like my bathrobe, got me a new one and told me to throw my old one away.
It's good to have Marty around again. After a year and a half of long distance, I was about ready to tear my hair out amongst other terrible things. I think I handled it decently but it was pretty awful when I was working at Target, things were just bad in general because I worked there :P
We're still not quite settled. He's in the process of finding a job and things are looking up in that department. We'll see. And he's still going back and forth between Gainesville but he's in Orlando more often than not. He finished his defense but his paper is not yet done and his adviser is being a real slowass, oldmanhobag in helping him.
I'm not worried about Marty finding a job, I'm just worried about where he'll find a job. o_O I'm not against moving, I would just prefer to stay in Orlando for right now.
But yeah, can't complain right now. No date on the wedding still cause now the parents are waiting for him to get a job and make sure we're settled economically before we blow a lot of money on the wedding and honeymoon.
We've picked our site though. ^_^ Marty's family friend offered her estate to us for any use and I'm thinking, "Maybe we could do our rehearsal dinner there..." I had only been to her place a few times and while it was gorgeous I never knew how big it was until she gave us a full tour. After touring the grounds, I absolutely fell in the love so that's where the ceremony and reception will be! The front yard will be for the ceremony. It's not a typical front yard. It is in front of the house but it's completely enclosed with giant hedges and there's wrought iron gates and leafy arches and it's awesome!
One of the gates leads to the backyard where it's decorated very nicely and there's lots of room and a nice pool with a fountain and that's where the reception will be. She said she'd open up the whole first floor for the guest to mingle between the outside and the inside.
I didn't take any pictures because I didn't want to seem rude, but next time I visit, we'll take pictures. I suppose once we start the real planning I'll have to go there more often to assess the decorations and things. :P
So yeah, another wedding semi-update. By the looks of things, we probably won't get married until late this year or early 2009.
I was getting impatient but with all of the other weddings and engagements going on, I'm okay with waiting. I just want my own day.
Kind of a long story. But that's just from my perspective. I honestly haven't probed too much into Marty's point of view. Oh well. More to come later...
Over Thanksgiving Marty's mom started talking to me about wedding planning and that was exciting. She's been looking into churches, reception sites, caterers, bands, etc. It's nice to have a good Orlando resource. Obviously the major wedding planning will happen after Marty is done-done-done and that's probably when we'll finally decide on a date.
Here's a random list of things:
- Wedding - Catholic
- Reception - Chinese
- Preliminary Guest List - 130 so far
- Bridesmaids - 8
- Groomsmen - 8 (Still need to ask the last guy! Eep!)
- Tried on dresses to see which styles looked best on me. (I've got pictures but I can't post them!)
So yeah, that's it for right now.
